⏳ Weekend in Dublin

Reflection, lessons, and consultants

Hey there,

I spent a long weekend in Dublin. It is a perfectly fine city but the highlight was Dún Laoghaire. A suburb by the beach, lovely walks, saw some jets doing aerobatics, nice wine bar. Central Dublin is nothing surprising but pleasant.

Few lessons learnt:

📌 Do not book early flights - sounds like a good idea but with tiredness, you get fewer quality hours on that first day

📌 Airbnbs be expensive! Should’ve checked booking or something else (but it might just have been Dublin)

📌 Right now, I think I want to centre holidays around a specific activity. General hanging out can be done anywhere. I should probably carry my camera more often.

Other key takeaways:

💎 People respond to authority even if made up - I asked someone if the seat next to them on the plane was free. They asked me what’s wrong with your seat. I replied with “I have to change seat”, to which they immediately got up. I didn’t give a reason but making it seem like I had no control over this decision was convincing enough.

💎 I spent 3 days with 2 consultants at big consultancies and based on what they were saying, the greatest value add is risk mitigation. The chances are simply lower that whatever project will be a disaster. I can’t help but think it is wasted talent but not sure what else they could/would be doing if not this that is more inspiring.

Kind regards,

Jay
